巴厘岛因历史上受印度文化宗教的影响，居民大都信奉印度教，是印尼唯一信仰印度教的地方。但这里的印度教同印度本土上的印度教不大相同，是印度教的教义和巴厘岛风俗习惯的结合，称为巴厘印度教。居民主要供奉三大天神(梵天、毗湿奴、湿婆神)和佛教的释迦牟尼，还祭拜太阳神、水神、火神、风神等。教徒家里都设有家庙，家族组成的社区有神庙，村有村庙，全岛有庙宇12500多座，因此，该岛又有ldquo;千庙之岛rdquo;之美称。

巴厘岛的艺术与它的独特宗教相结合，形成了一种富于神秘气质和古老魅力的独特风采。印度教是泛神化的典型，大大小小的偶像崇拜不计其数，而且印度教的偶像艳丽妖娆，千变万化。这也一定程度上影响了巴厘岛的艺术呈现出繁复、细致、精密的特色。特别是它的雕刻艺术与绘画艺术处处浸润着这种特征。舞蹈和音乐也是巴厘岛闻名于世的绝技，巴厘人的古典舞蹈典雅多姿，在世界舞蹈艺术中具有独特的地位，也是印尼民族舞蹈中独树一帜的奇葩，巴厘岛的民族乐器多就地取材，以竹、椰克等制作，声音悠荡深远。
乌布(Ubud)被称之为文化艺术村，许多西方人为她着迷，在此停驻。虽然这里已经充斥着过多的商业气息，但是它所集中展示的艺术品仍然显示着精湛的工艺和独特的审美。无数resort、SPA、和咖啡店林立在艺术品店、银饰商品和画廊中间，使这里成为一个能让人流连忘返的去处。对着乌布街面后面宁静的梯田做一个传统巴厘岛SPA，或者坐下来小憩喝一杯冰咖啡，都是特别好的旅行方式。
